How to Compress Images Without Losing Quality

The trade-off everyone gets wrong

Image compression isn't really about "smaller vs. bigger" — it's about how much compression your eyes can't detect. Most images can lose 40–70% of their file size before the difference is visible at normal viewing size.

Steps to compress without visible quality loss

  1. Open the Image Compressor tool.
  2. Upload your image and try a moderate compression level first, rather than the most aggressive setting.
  3. Compare the result against the original at 100% zoom — not the thumbnail size, since that hides artifacts.
  4. If you can't tell the difference, push the compression a little further and check again.

Format matters more than most people think

JPG is efficient for photos with lots of color variation. PNG is better for graphics with flat colors, text, or transparency, but produces much larger files for photos. If you're not sure which to use, try the Bulk Image Converter to test both and compare file sizes directly.
