How to Rotate and Flip a Photo Correctly
A sideways photo is one of the most common phone-camera annoyances — especially with images pulled from certain apps or older devices that don't reliably honor the orientation flag saved inside the file. The photo looks upright on your phone, then opens rotated 90 degrees the moment it lands somewhere else, because that something else is reading the raw pixel data rather than the same orientation metadata your phone's gallery app was silently correcting for.
Steps
- Open the Image Rotator & Flipper and upload the photo.
- Rotate it 90, 180, or 270 degrees as needed, or flip it horizontally/vertically if you need a mirrored version.
- Download the corrected file — this bakes the correct orientation into the actual pixel data, so it displays right everywhere afterward, not just in apps that happen to read the orientation flag.
Rotation vs. flipping — not the same operation
Rotating turns the whole image around a center point; flipping mirrors it left-to-right or top-to-bottom without changing which way is "up." People sometimes reach for a flip when what they actually need is a 180-degree rotation, or vice versa — if the fix doesn't look right, try the other operation before assuming the tool isn't working.
